1957 Symbolic photograph showing Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers as he hangs up his glove and retires from baseball after being traded to the New York Giants despite a request to Walter O'Malley that he would never be traded. All smiles here, Jackie is seen with his wife and son along with his awards and trophies in his home but the underhanded slight wore on him for the rest of his life. This is an important image as it captures Jackie at one of the lowest points of his career. Issued by the International News and stamped on the back with a full paper caption as well with the photographer Bob Gilman being credited as well.
