Large photograph of Ty Cobb sliding into third base against the New York Highlanders and Jimmy Austin. Originally taken by Charles Conlon, this is the most famous sports photo ever snapped and despite this one being a c. 1950's re-strike (pre-five digit zip code in 1963) this one looks fantastic. While the photo is off a duplicate negative, what needs to be understood about this photo is that it was issued by the Sporting News. They owned the original glass plate negative and when it was broken around WWII, they made a HIGH QUALITY duplicate negative for future publications so it is about as clear and concise as the image from Conlon. One of the finest examples of this image in the hobby and worthy of consideration by even the most advanced collector.
