Hardcore Yankees fans all know the name Sal Durante. A poor New York kid who bought a bleacher seat to the last game of the 1961 season in right field hoping to watch history and inadvertently became part of it! He caught Roger Maris' record setting 61st home run and then sold the ball for $5,000 (after offering to give it to Maris) and used the money to get married. For a short time he became a sort of celebrity and his name and accomplishment survive to this very day. The offered oversized (huge) rarity captures the moment in the dugout where Durante poses with Maris and the ball but this one has an interesting twist; besides the large format, this is a unique new discovery that is being offered here for the first time ever from the local photographer Seymour Wally of the New York Daily News! This is one of the most famous moments of the 1961 home run chase and this is BY FAR the greatest piece of photography considering size and rarity that we have ever offered!
