Sandy Koufax was no secret when he was signed up by the Brooklyn Dodgers, having just put up jaw dropping numbers in college at the University of Cincinnati, he was paid an enormous salary to sign with Brooklyn. He floundered a bit and the other owners who missed out on Sandy had to be thinking they had dodged a bullet and saved a ton of money by not signing the young southpaw, but when it was all said and done he was being mentioned as one of the greatest that ever lived. The offered c. 1955 photograph shows young Koufax in uniform with the ink on his contract still wet. He looks awkward in his jersey and perhaps was a bit unsure of his future in the game. A large vintage example in fine condition overall, the signature on the front is secretarial but is of no matter as the photo itself is the star of the show here. Deep and clear it is highly likely that the image is the work of Barney Stein who was the team photographer throughout the decade. One of the greatest images of Sandy Koufax to hit the market and one of the best in the world!
