After being diagnosed with ALS in the spring of 1939 Lou Gehrig was dealt a harsh blow of two deaths! The death of his career came immediately while the death of his physical body took a few more years. Taken during the summer after his diagnosis, this is one of Gehrig's most famous images ever taken as he sits on the dugout steps and looks over the game he was leaving behind. Stamped on the back from the International News, the image presents well despite a small rip on the bottom that was repaired on the back with a piece of tape and a paper clip indentation on the top border. The photo was trimmed slightly by the newspaper as they used the image to create a piece of art when it was published. One of the only times you will ever see this image offered for sale in any form as most of them are tucked away in high end collections and museums!
