December 1961 vintage photograph of Ernie Davis from Syracuse University as he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns and rejoined his former teammate Jim Brown. Optimism was high but of course his story took a tragic turn as he would be diagnosed with Leukemia and pass away before he could ever play in the NFL. An incredible image in great shape, this is from a newspaper archive and is being offered here for the first time ever. There is a faint autograph over the man at center that is almost impossible to read, but it looks like it says "Good Luck and Good Grades Jesse L. Hicks" but it really is almost impossible to see and only the light indentation remains.
