Unlike the suffragette movement in America which was largely peaceful and symbolic, the ladies in Europe suffered some severe consequences for their protests. The top leader of the movement, Emmaline Pankhurst, is seen here during one of her arrests for demonstrating in London as she is being escorted to jail by the police. While this moment is a bit subdued, she was beaten at other times in her marches. Issued by Brown Brothers and stamped on the back, this is one of the greatest images of the pioneer suffragette we have ever offered. There is some creasing and light wear, but overall the photo presents really well.
