Perhaps nobody in the history of sports gets less accolades for their accomplishments than Althea Gibson. She not only broke down barriers for blacks in sports, but also had the stigma of being a woman at the same time. She should be right up there with Jackie Robinson as one of the most important Civil Rights athletes of all time, but sadly, only a few remember or care about her massive impact on sports. The offered image captures her from early in her career at a tournament in England. One of her greatest photographs we have ever handled and in fantastic condition, issued by the International News and with a full paper caption as well.
