1927 Early photograph of young boxer Jack Sharkey sitting shirtless in the gym and full of youth and enthusiasm. He was all set to meet Jack Dempsey and get a shot at Gene Tunney for the title when this photo was taken. The bout would not go well. Dempsey swung low over and over again prompting Sharkey to turn and complain to the referee and when turning his head, Dempsey knocked him out! He would eventually get another shot at the title in 1931 and would win, holding onto it until 1933. A rare early image in decent shape with some chipping at the edges from editorial use. Issued by the International News and stamped on the back.
