1919 Photograph of a young man named Emile Gallot Donaldson in full uniform and serving as the mascot for the University of Pennsylvania football team. He was a French boy who was orphaned by shelling in WWI and was adopted by the sister of star U. Penn payer Wharton Donaldson. He was taken in by his new uncle, also a WWI hero, and was made the mascot of the football team. A great image with an incredible backstory, this is the only photograph of Donaldson we have ever seen. Issued by Underwood and Underwood and stamped on the back with a full paper caption as well, the photo presents well with note to a crease at the left and some editorial pinholes from publication.
