In the long and storied history of the New York Yankees franchise, 1923 was the year it all started. They would win their first ever World Series and this was the game winning hit, making it one of the most important action photographs we have ever handled. With the score 4-3 in favor of the Giants, Bob Meusel came up in the bottom of the 8th inning with two outs and the bases loaded. The outcome seemed bleak and the series seemed destined to go to a seventh game, but Meusel came through with a long single that would score three runs, putting the Yankees up 6-4 for the win and their first title. This image shows Joe Dugan advancing to third base and creating an error that would allow him to score the 6th and final run. Meusel would be right behind him advancing to second following his game winning hit that sent the Bronx Bombers into the history books! An important piece of baseball history that we have never seen offered before, this was issued by NEA and stamped on the back with a full paper caption as well. A piece of history that belongs in the Hall of Fame! There is a little wear at the lower left corner, otherwise it presents beautifully.
