The most famous incident in baseball history was the 1919 World Series in which eight members of the Chicago White Sox were banished for throwing the Series. One of the more obscure members of the group was Fred McMullin whom many thought was pulled in because he was friends with the better players, but in reality he was a key member of the octet! As a part time player, McMullin was given the last week of the season off and he was the teams scout who watched the Reds and single handedly provided the information to manager Kid Gleason to plan the games. The offered portrait photograph by Underwood and Underwood is one of his greatest photographs ever taken and it comes directly from the archives of Underwood.
