On the short list of the greatest singers of all time is Jazz icon Billie Holiday. Despite being black and a woman during a time when both were obstacles, nothing held her back and she is as relevant and important today as she was seventy years ago. Despite her fame, images of Holiday are extremely rare with this being one of the only original examples we have ever seen or offered publicly (this is the ONLY example of this image). Seen here striking a sexy pose and from early in her career, dating to the early 1940's. This is an important piece of music history that we are proud to offer here for the first time ever, fresh out of a newspaper archive! It is impossible to date the blank backed image as to when it was developed off the negative, but we feel it is a 1950's dark-room image.
