Long before "Frankenstein" or "Dracula", there were other films that helped establish the genre of horror films and bring them to the mainstream audiences. One of the first such groundbreaking films was "The Monster" released in 1925 and featuring one of the pioneers of horror acting, Lon Chaney. In fact, this film is believed to be the first to ever create the character of the "mad scientist" as is seen in this rare studio photograph. Stamped on the back with film information and the date, this is one of the only known images from this film that exists.
