The Miss America pageant is one of the greatest and longest running institutions in American history. In 1925 when this photograph was taken, it was a new thing that was just taking hold. As part of the early pageant, a "Miss Atlantic City" had to be crowned so that she could serve as the official host of the event, and this image captures musician Irving Berlin crowning Lee Bartlett with the honor! A bold and important early work of Miss America memorabilia that we have never seen before and being offered here for the first time ever fresh out of a newspaper archive. Issued by Underwood and Underwood and stamped on the back with a full paper caption as well, the photo looks nice with creasing and pinholes from editorial use.
