1923 Was the high point for the New York Yankees as they finally won the World Series. It looked as though the team would never lose again with Ruth in his prime and a young Lou Gehrig on the way, but they faltered in 1924 and lost the pennant to the upstart Washington Senators. Despite his disappointment, Jacob Ruppert put on a brave face and appeared at the Polo Grounds to watch the World Series. While he was there as a casual observer, he had to be fuming inside and wondering if his team would ever make it back to the fall classic. He had little to fret over as the Yankees would rebound to win it again in 1927 and 1928 and then go on a spectacular run from 1932 until his death. The offered image is one of his greatest we have ever handled and it presents well with some artistic tracing, crease and some pinholes all done for publication being the only technical flaws. Issued by Underwood and Underwood and stamped on the back with a nice paper caption as well.
