In 1956 a young 26 year old photographer named Alfred Wertheimer was called and asked if he would follow a new singer on a trip from New York to Memphis and take some shots of him. Wertheimer had never heard of Elvis Presley when he accepted the assignment, but the images would become the greatest of the young singer ever taken. The offered image shows Presley on a train to Memphis while reading some of his fan mail and caught in a relaxing pose. This is one of Wertheimer's most famous images from the group he took and this is a fantastic original that comes from the archives of Underwood and Underwood and bears their c. 1956-1960 stamp on the back. A nearly perfect specimen that is the first original example of this image we have ever seen.
