1946 Photograph of rookie from the St. Louis Cardinals, Joe Garagiola, as he gets a kiss from his mother before the first game of the World Series against the Red Sox. It must have worked as Garagiola had a big hit and the Cardinals would win the series. Taken by photographer Herb Scharfman and issued through the International News, this predates Garagiola's rookie cards and is one of the earliest images in uniform we have ever seen.
