1960 Photograph of the Pittsburgh Pirates team in uniform after capturing the National League pennant and posing in front of the ivy wall of the outfield at Forbes Field. While they were a good squad, few gave them much of a chance against the powerful New York Yankees in the upcoming World Series. The Pirates behind a dramatic home run from Bill Mazeroski and some timely pitching would capture the hearts of the country by winning in thrilling fashion and becoming one of the most famous teams in baseball history. Issued by the team and with two full paper captions on the back, this is actually a rare image as most Pirates team photos came through the wire by 1960! The photo is blank backed but comes directly from a newspaper archive and includes a huge newspaper article that this photo was used to make that concretely dates this to 1960 as the article talks about the "upcoming" World Series! This is the finest image of the 1960 Pirates we have ever handled.
