Baseball was a funny thing in 1920 as blacks were not allowed to play with white athletes, but in other aspects of the game they were welcome, albeit in subservient roles. Here we see famous deadball era star Kid Elberfeld in his role as a manager of Little Rock in the Southern League and posing with his two mascots, Red and Archie, who clearly were excited to part of the team as mascots. A powerful work of photography in light of the way blacks were treated in a place like Little Rock at the time, this is a bold work of baseball history that we have never seen before. The image presents pretty well with some pinholes at the corners and some light editorial marks from publication and a huge handwritten note on the back from the original photographer that describes the action. The photo comes with a full letter from PSA as a Type 1 as well.
