It is incredible to think that in 1904, given the primitive knowledge of pressure and engineering and with basic tools, workers could tunnel under the Hudson River in New York. The offered photograph shows a worker being loaded into a barrel for work under the river in a pressurized setting. An incredible work of photography with a cool handwritten note on the back, this is a fantastic piece of New York City history from the Brown Brothers archive and despite some handling wear, it looks great!
