One of the most controversial moments of WWII and in the life of General George S. Patton took place during August 1943 when Patton slapped two different soldiers who were hospitalized for "fatigue" and ordered them back to the battlefields. The incidents were suppressed but word got out in November of that year and Patton was forced to publicly acknowledge what happened and face what he had done. Here is a stoic pose of the famed General issued during the aftermath of the scandal, issued by the Associated Press and stamped on the back. The photo has some pinholes from editorial use and some handling wear but features a statuesque pose of one of the most famous men of WWII. Regardless of his personality traits, Patton got the job done and is revered today for his hard nosed tactics that helped win the war. While this photo is missing the paper caption, we know when it was issued (as described above) because we have handled another copy of this image that had the original paper caption from when it was sent to newspapers.
