By the fall of 1931 President Herbert Hoover was one of the most unpopular presidents of all time. The Depression lingered and nobody saw an end in sight. He managed to come out of hiding and put on a brave face however to throw out the first pitch of the World Series between the Philadelphia Athletics and the St. Louis Cardinals at Shibe Park. While the Athletics had won two straight, it would be the Red Birds who took this one. A rare Depression era photo from Acme and in nice overall condition, the piece is stamped on the back and has a nice paper caption as well. Connie Mack shaking hands with the President is a nice touch in this image as well, making it the only image we have ever seen of both men from the Series.
