The prototypical Hollywood superstar struggling with substance abuse is common today, but in the 1920's it was just coming to light as a problem. One of the first casualties of this unfortunate link between film and drugs was actress Alma Rubens. She was a huge star in the early 1920's but by the time this image was taken she had descended deep into drug addiction and would die in 1931. A rare image of one of the first casualties to the fast life of a Hollywood star of the silent era! Photo essentially grades perfect with a studio credit to Witzel of Hollywood on the corner. A work of motion picture art!
