Jess Sweetser was one of the earliest American golf stars. He won the U.S. Amateur in 1922 and then became the first U.S. born player to win the British Amateur in 1926. The offered photograph captures him in the midst of his famous 1922 victory! This is his earliest image we have ever seen and it comes fresh out of a newspaper archive, offered here for the first time ever! Photo has some pinholes, a small handwritten note on his arm, and a crease from editorial use, but it otherwise presents really well. Issued by Underwood and Underwood and stamped on the back with a long paper caption as well.
