The 1927 fight between Jack Sharkey and Jack Dempsey is one of the most controversial of the era. Sharkey was easily winning the bout for the right to fight Gene Tunney for the title, but turned to complain to the referee about Dempsey's low punches and was knocked out by Dempsey when he was not looking. Sharkey would eventually get his shot anyways and become the Heavyweight Champion of the World, but here he is several years before he got the best, training for Dempsey and the controversial fight that is still talked about today. His opponent in the ring is Rocky Stone and the image is a masterful work of photography, taken at an even angle to the ring and with a sweeping view of the training facility. Issued by Kadel and Herbert and stamped on the back with a nice paper caption, the photo presents really well with notes to pinholes from editorial use.
