Had you visited the 1945 Kansas City Monarchs and asked who their "best player" was, you would walked past Jackie Robinson and been introduced to young Othello Renfroe. In his first year in the Negro Leagues he hit an impressive .351 (ahead of Jackie) and excelled behind the plate as the teams starting catcher! Here is a rookie year image of the young star who would have quite a career, but never got the chance Jackie did in the big leagues. As a side note, he was able to break a color barrier in baseball as the first black official scorer in the big leagues with Montreal. An important image of an important player from his rookie year.
