The second game of the 1922 World Series is one of the most controversial in history. With the score between the Yankees and Giants tied 3-3, Judge Kennesaw Mountain Landis ordered the game to be "called" on account of darkness. Most of the fans and players agreed that it was light enough to go another inning, but Landis was God and he had made his decree. As a result, fans stormed the field and surrounded Landis, hurling insults and threats in his direction. The game would be resumed later and the Giants would win the series, only adding fuel to the fire in the minds of Yankee fans who loved their team and their superstar Babe Ruth. The offered photograph shows Landis being escorted off the field under police protection with a massive mob milling about. This is the only image from this event that we have handled and it presents well with a corner chip on the lower left being the only real flaw. Issued by Wide World Photos and with a huge paper caption on the back.
