Original 1937 photograph of the Nazi airship "Hindenburg" as it hits the ground at Lakehurst, engulfed in flames, and about to collapse on its passengers. While we have sold many images from this tragic event over the years, this is one of only a handful of this exact photograph we have ever handled, showing the flames shooting from the nose of the ship. Stamped on the back by the Associated Press and with a full paper caption that is clearly an initial and early report of the event, still listing the number of casualties as unknown! The photo has minimal, acceptable wear from news-room storage including a small rip on the far left that has been repaired on the back. A museum quality relic from one of the most important events of the 20th century!
