1919 Large photograph of superstar golfer Walter Hagen as he looked to defend his title at the Metropolitan Open at the North Shore Country Club. He was the reigning US Open champ and had won the last Met Open (1916) before WWI and would win it again here. One of his greatest early photographs we have ever handled and one of his top images ever taken, this is a completely original work of art from Underwood and Underwood and offered here for the first time, fresh out of their archive. There is a handwritten note from the next season on the back that indicates Hagen had won the Met Open again, but this is a famous image documented from 1919 and this image was just an update so it could be used for that story in 1920 as well. Despite some wear to the corners and edges (some of which have been repaired with scotch tape) the image itself is spectacular and ranks among the top 2-3 of Hagen that we have ever handled. Note the white line running near his chin is a flaw in the negative and not damage to the print which is clear and bold, guaranteed to get a Type 1 from PSA!
