At the end of the 1930 season, Cubs fiery young manager Joe McCarthy announced his intentions not to return to the club for 1931 and in response, he was told just to not show up for the end of the season. He was replaced by outstanding player, but pretty bad manager, Rogers Hornsby. Here "Rajah" poses on the dugout steps and seems pretty pleased at the opportunity despite the circumstances. Issued by Pacific and Atlantic and stamped on the back with a paper caption as well.
