Heinie Groh was a fantastic Baseball player of the 1910's and 1920's but he is best known today for the unusual bat he used. It was referred to among all simply as the "Bottle Bat" because it carried the same shape as a glass Coke Bottle from the era. Groh used this weapon to accomplish numbers which could easily have landed him in the Hall of Fame, and his success brought forth imitators and before long dozens of players were using his Bottle Bat. The offered image is a prominent one from Cincinnati photographer J.R Schmidt (Issued through the Keystone View Company) in which Groh is the secondary subject to his lumber. So prominent was this image that it was used to make Heinie Groh's 1921 Exhibit baseball card! The photo presents pretty well despite some wear, creasing, and pinholes from editorial use. A beautiful cross-over collectible for those who wish to acquire vintage photography and those who collect images used to make baseball cards!
