The 1934 World Series is still one of the most famous of all time as it pitted the hard hitting Detroit Tigers against the Gas House Gang Cardinals. Stars on both sides of the plate were aplenty including Hank Greenberg and Dizzy Dean, but it was missing one thing... Babe Ruth! Well, the game of baseball obliged their fans and there was the great Bambino in all his glory to wish both teams good luck before the start of the first game. Seen here surrounded by starting pitchers Dizzy Dean and Schoolboy Rowe as well as hitting stars Frankie Frisch and Mickey Cochrane, Ruth tried to play the impartial ambassador but at heart you know he was fuming that he was not playing in the game. A really cool image from one of the most important World Series of all time, issued by Underwood and Underwood and stamped on the back with part of the original paper caption as well!
