One of the most famous images ever taken on a baseball diamond, this touching 1939 photo captures Babe Ruth hugging his teammate Lou Gehrig on the day Gehrig was honored at Yankee Stadium. A rare piece of baseball history that is being offered here fresh from the Brown Brothers archive. This is a c. 1945-50 example that presents really well, issued only about ten years after it was taken and from the original negative which is of the utmost importance. One of the only examples of this image that dates anywhere near the 1939 date that we have ever seen! NOTE the Brown Brothers stamp on the back is from about 1950-55 but the photo itself actually has a look and feel of an older photo which means it could have been an older example when brown brothers placed it in their archive.
