The 1927 Yankees revolutionized the game and put the most potent lineup in the history of baseball out on the field. Led by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, teams were actually scared to play them and their reputation preceded them into the World Series. For once, they were supposed to be tested by a team that had not faced them yet in the regular season and the Pirates were not afraid. Led by a lineup nearly as stacked as the Yankees, the Series was supposed to be close. It wasn't. Ruth and Gehrig put on a show and the Yankees cemented their legacy with a four game sweep. The offered image from NEA is a perfect microcosm of the series itself as it shows the mighty Babe Ruth crossing the plate after a Home Run with his teammate Lou Gehrig offering his congratulations. Famed bat boy Eddie Bennett is seen to the left while the Pirates catcher is dejected and looking at the ground. Dated on the back and in pretty nice shape overall, this is a completely vintage example off the original negative (but reverse for engraving). One of the few images of Ruth and Gehrig from the 1927 World Series we have ever offered and this will grade a "Type 1" from PSA guaranteed!
