Important 1883 carte de visite photograph of Matthew Webb, the champion swimmer who became the first person to ever swim the English Channel in 1875. He would die later in the same year this image was taken when he tried a daring swim through the rapids below Niagara Falls. Condition and quality of this CDV photograph are fantastic and this is the only image of Webb we have ever seen in person!
