As the 1939 season played out, few thought the Yankees could compete. They still had one of the top teams, but the loss of Lou Gehrig was a major blow. Others stepped up however and they again rose to the top of the baseball world. The offered photograph captures their "Heavy Artillery" including Joe DiMaggio, Bill Dickey, Charlie Keller and George Selkirk as they headed into the World Series. A fantastic, nearly perfect image from the International News.
