August 29, 1934 rare photograph from Shibe Park that captures superstar pitcher Schoolboy Rowe of the Tigers, who had won 16 consecutive games (tying the A.L. record) and was trying to get number 17 to hold the record all by himself. A massive crowd showed up at Shibe Park on this day to watch the attempted feat, but it would be the hometown crowd that would get the better of the ace pitcher. Issued by the United Press and stamped on the back, the photo is clear but has some creasing and slight staining from news room use over the last 85 years.
