1924 Silver gelatin photograph of Christy Mathewson as he watched his beloved Boston Braves during "Opening Day". At the time this image was taken, Mathewson was on the upswing and most people thought he had beaten the tuberculosis that had ravaged his body since WWI. He would relapse into illness however and pass away the year after this photo was taken. Crystal clear and bold, this is one of the better images of Mathewson from late in life that we have seen and it is a beautiful setting at the ballpark as well. Issued by Wide World Photos and condition is overall quite nice.
