Incredible 1919 panoramic photograph of Redland Field in Cincinnati on the eve of the World Series that was coming to town in a matter of days as this was the site of the first two games. The stadium is empty but a few days later, gamblers would get to the players and create an environment that would lead to the sox throwing games and losing on purpose. The 1919 World Series is one of the seminal events in baseball history and this poignant photo is a sweeping reminder of the excitement and anticipation of these games before they turned to tragedy. Issued by Underwood and Underwood, the photo has a stamp and paper caption on the back that talks about the upcoming series. At one point there was a photo of the White Sox ballpark atop this one and trimmed by a newspaper editor. With editorial marks from publication, this is the only example of this rare and beautiful stadium image we have ever seen in the hobby (we sold the Comiskey Park image earlier this year)! The photo is outstanding and the clarity is really nice for the distance the photo was taken. The technology existed back in 1919 to split large negative to print images like this (2 per photo) and cut them, so the fact this was part of a composite does not automatically mean PSA will not give it a type 1, but regardless it is a clear and bold keepsake from the most famous World Series of all time.
