Incredible 1949 photograph from inside the New York Giants locker room in which Negro Leaguer Hank Thompson (who made his debut with the Giants the week before) was joined by their latest addition, fellow Negro League star Monte Irvin. Taken on the day Irvin reported and made his major league debut, this only the second photograph from this event that we have ever seen in any form and it carries a paper caption from Jul 6, 1949 (the day BEFORE he made his debut). An incredible piece of history from one of the games most important black pioneers and from the lens of photographer Herbie Scharfman!
