1906 Extremely rare silver gelatin portrait photograph of 19th century Hall of Famer Tommy McCarthy in full baseball uniform. Images of McCarthy that would fit into the window of a PSA "Type 1" are almost non-existent and this is one of the only ones that would qualify. A unique snapshot photograph from the estate of a student who worked on the Dartmouth newspaper, he took this photo of McCarthy for publication in the school paper. He was a coach with the school for a very short period of time and this is the only individual image of McCarthy from his stint in Hanover we have ever seen. While we are not autograph authenticators, there is a chance the inscription on the front was done by him as it is a flowing script that appears to be more than just an identification. Mounted to some slightly thicker paper in 1906, the image could be peeled back to reveal the photo-paper for PSA to give it a Type 1, or left completely intact as an amazing display. There are only a few images of McCarthy known from his playing days and as such he is one of the absolute rarest of all baseball Hall of Famers to find "Type 1" photographs of! The size listed is for the entire piece including the cardboard mount.
