The 1951 baseball season ended in a tie between the Giants and the Dodgers, forcing the two teams into a short three-game playoff series. As if a tight race could not get any more exciting, the series would end in a dramatic home run by Bobby Thomson which has gone down in history as the "shot heard round the world." Offered here is a sweeping horizontal image of the Polo Grounds in New York for the second game of the series, taken from center field and giving us a great look at the stadium, jam packed with fans and photographers. A work of art, this was issued by the International News and stamped on the back with a full paper caption as well.
