The best pitcher in baseball during the 1917 season was obscure Ferdie Schupp of the New York Giants. Barely a starter before his breakout season, he would go 21-7 and lead the league with a 1.95 ERA. Overworked, he would come back down to earth in 1918 making him one of the greatest one year wonders in all of baseball. Stunning and crystal clear, this was issued by Underwood and Underwood and is the best photograph of Schupp we have ever handled.
