For all the firsts, groundbreaking moments, and monumental contract signings, Jackie Robinson was probably photographed more than any ballplayer from 1947-1956. There are several important photographs out there, but the most famous and iconic image of Robinson ever snapped, and one that seemed to define his career, was from game one of the 1955 World Series when he stole home against the New York Yankees. The offered photograph is one of the only completely vintage example we have seen with the condition and quality of this one being nearly perfect and stamped on the back with the important date! Crystal clear and with exceptional contrast, the image was snapped at the exact moment Yogi Berra looked back to see what the umpire would decide as Jackie's momentum was still taking him forward, suspended forever in perfect animation. A moment that has been viewed online and in print millions of times, this is an ultra rare original being offered for the first time ever here, fresh out of the New York Daily News newspaper archive and this image is the work of famous (Pulitzer Prize winning) photographer Frank Hurley! The clarity of this example is off the charts and it is definitely in the running for the greatest image from this event ever offered!
