It is hard to believe there was ever a time when people did not squirm at the thought of black-face makeup being legitimate entertainment. The king of this genre, and an actor that used to be incredibly famous, was Al Jolson. He made a fortune doing black face and here he is putting on the makeup that made him one of the most popular men in the world. From one of his last films to use the genre, this was still being done to huge applause in 1936, just five years from WWII! An incredible piece of Hollywood history that although insensitive, needs to be remembered.
