1921 Photograph of Heavyweight Champion of the World Jack Johnson. He was one of the most controversial figures in 20th century America as he dared stand up to the racist establishment repeatedly. The final straw came when Johnson refused to keep his wedding to a white woman secret and for this he was exiled from America. Original silver gelatin photograph was possibly taken by noted Chicago Photographer Jun Fujita as we sold another example similar to this that bore his stamp a few years back. One of the most important photos of Johnson outside the Ring ever offered, issued in 1923 and issued through Underwood and Underwood.
