In a sport obsessed with stats, its remarkable how poorly teams documented their players at the turn of the century. guys would hang out with teams and work with them for months but if they never got into a game, they might as well have never existed. Enter this rare silver gelatin portrait photo of a player named Neagle for the Cleveland Indians. There is no information on this man, who he was, where he was from, or even his first name. At one point in his life however, he was good enough to be a member of the Cleveland Indians although apparently never getting into a game. A nice footnote to the way baseball was 100 years ago and a fun research project as well. Crystal clear and bold, there is a good chance this is also a photograph by Louis Van Oeyen!
