Few would guess that the swollen and bruised face in this image is that of the most beautiful and iconic actress of all time, Marilyn Monroe. Taken just after her autopsy had been completed by a police camera (with file notes on the upper corner) this image is indeed the face of Marilyn. The medical procedure left her disfigured but on close inspection it can be seen that this was indeed the Hollywood starlet. A tragic reminder of the cost of fame, this was issued around the 1970's in conjunction with a retrospective on the life of Monroe, but it still has significant age to it. This is the only example of this macabre image we have ever handled in all the photo archives and collections we have viewed and a vintage example in any form is extremely rare!
