Original and somewhat large for the era team photograph of a well dressed assemblage of players, taken in the generation just after the Civil War in America. The uniforms, bat and lack of any gloves or catchers mask pinpoint the date of the image to about 1872, making it about as early as these get before getting into the CDV style of photography. The mount and photography style irrespective of the subjects, also lead to an early 1870's dating. Likely a high level town team of amateurs, the one boy is thankfully holding his hat at an angle where a really cool star can be seen at the top! One of the finer images of its type we have seen and this is a slice of American history, only lacking the apple pie for a truly American experience!
